Platte River State Park is one of best places to experience fall in Nebraska. I wasn't sure if I'd still see some color since it was mid November, but the leaves were stunning! Platte River State Park really is a hidden gem in Nebraska. Let's talk about the things you can do here... lincoln journal star towerI'm convinced the Lincoln Journal Star Observation Tower has one of the greatest views of the Platte River. It's not your average tower, this one is pretty tall. The tower even has benches for you to sit down so you can catch your breath! If you need an afternoon of fresh air, beautiful scenery, & space to think - Platte River State Park is an awesome place to do it. waterfall trailI've wanted to check out this waterfall trail for years now! A couple weeks ago, I finally got the chance to do it. I decided to walk the trail solo! It was about a ten minute walk through a forest to the waterfall. The forest was a little spooky to walk alone, but it was comforting to know you have to pay to get into the park! I also saw many other girls hiking this trail with their pets, so I'm glad that didn't stop me from going. The waterfall was low, but I didn't expect much in November! It was awesome to see the creek, wooden bridge, & falls. Did I mention when I got there no one else was there? It was pretty cool to experience alone. rent a cabinI already see myself reserving a cabin here this winter! The cabins look well-maintained and like the perfect little getaway from city life in Omaha. I've seen cabins available for as low as $91 a night. They offer lakefront cabins, glamping cabins, and bunkbeds to multiply the amount of sleeping space! It'd be so nice to have a cookout on the camp fire, sit in the screened porch with coffee, and be out of my normal winter day schedule. canoe & kayakI already have my eye on this place for kayaking next summer. They rent kayaks and canoes for $20 per person and you get it for 90 minutes. You can also rent a paddleboat for 30 minutes for $15! They have a spray park as well during the warmer months for $3 per person. I'm excited to take our five year old to check it out! If you haven't visited the Holy Family Shrine, this would be a great time to stop! It's about a 20 minute drive from the park. I wrote about my experience visiting the shrine, if you'd like to take a look you can read it here! A few other places nearby I love are Louisville State Recreation Area and the Wildlife Safari Park in Ashland. Louisville has some incredible summer activities, with swimming and an inflatable water obstacle course! I hope this helps you plan a fun visit to Platte River State Park! Winter or summer this is such a pretty place to visit. Whether you're looking to walk a trail or unplug in one of their cabins, Platte River State Park is a must see if you're exploring Nebraska!
